Over at http://home.epix.net/~jlferri/breasts.html are some interesting results from a survey about breasts and how they are portrayed in romance novels.

mmm breasts.. I think most of my preffered ways I would like to die would involve breasts.

well after muchr reading i decided to buy meself a shiny Logitech MX-518 mouse and a squeaky clean Steelpad S&S mouse pad (yes they're rather neglected things) with a new keyboard on the way when i figure out which.

click and you will see the details..

TechEd 2005 - APC Magazine » Hefty hardware requirements for Windows Vista

an interesting read..
TechEd 2005 - APC Magazine » Hefty hardware requirements for Windows Vista

at least we fin ally have some information.. i guess ill delay my new pc purchase till next year.. :'(

here are the more relevant bits

"Vista would work best on a video card with more than 256MB RAM, 2GB of DDR3 memory and a S-ATA 2 hard drive."

"The GPU needs a very high speed bi-directional bus to communicate with main memory. That has not been the case in the past, and what it means is that AGP will not be optimal"

"you really are going to see performance improvement for OS support for multicore" (CPU)

"The downside is that all your existing flat panel monitors and projectors aren't going to work with high-def videos in Vista. Bad news."

Vista's requirements in summary

"In a 32 bit environment, half a gig of RAM is heaps. It's going to fly. For 64 bit you're going to want 2 gigs of DDR3 RAM.

"If you move from 32 to 64 bit, you basically need to at least double your memory. 2 gigs in 64 bit is the equivalent of a gig of RAM on a 32bit machine. That's because you're dealing with chunks that are twice the size… if you try to make do with what you've got you'll see less performance. But RAM is now so cheap, it's hardly an issue.

"In terms of disks, you're really going to want S-ATA 2hard drives with NCQ capability because it gives the OS the ability to get on with stuff while disk tasks complete. All the tier 1 and tier 2 vendors can provide this capability today.

"Thirdly, the graphics card and system bus is essential. PCI x16 is going to be very important. Any of today's 3D GPUs will be fine… we're not waiting for some mystical monster that may or may not come out. But they need to have 128MB of RAM on it. If they've only got 64 don't panic.

"We acknowledge that many corporate notebooks have fairly low-end integrated graphics chips. They're not exactly high performance graphics systems. For those users, we will provide a classic UI that looks like XP, and then we will have Aero that will start to make use of the GPU, and then there's Aero Glass that will demand the higher level.

"We are talking a year out here, so I have no doubt the vendors will address this in that period of time.”

really busy day

been sick with this awesome virus for the last few days, courtesy of last week's plonking in rain (it was actually a lot colder here all week than melbourne). first day back and i'm dizzy and i have packed outpatient clinics all day, oh joy. in the morning team intake meeting and all of a sudden i have two crisis patients to assess in triage, one whom the folks in blue have brought in... i started my first clinic review an hour late due to the unscheduled crises, and then spent all day catching up, and sniffling.

at least it looked like a bright and sunny day.

im looking forward to going back to st vincents. the mental health system is at breaking point in WA, and there are almost no community outreach services to help support people in their home environments. at least its sunny though.

fish and chips err i mean.. oilcomputer

what do fish and chips have in common with a computer? well a lot more than you think system cooling taken to greasetream measures

a cold day...

that cat site is awesome, somewhere on whirlpool i once came across that crazy cat-as-extension-of-my-shelf-and-keeper-of-crap concept, but it's nice to remember it again. but wouldn't big (albeit sedated) dogs be more useful?

today was a shocking day weatherwise. i am taking transperth (www.transperth.com.au) while my car warbles it way across the nullabor. walking from fremantle city centre to the hospital was ok, thank you umbrella... until the last 20 metres from my building when the combined evilness of 'wind' and 'perth massive friggin rain' (remember, perth gets all of melbourne's annual rainfall in winter!) conspired together... i looked like i fell in a pool and it took a few hours to dry up properly. i think i have a chest infection now, lots of coughing, i feel like there is fluid in my lungs. i am tempted to ask for a cxr, but i think i'll ask one of my colleagues to auscultate (listen to) my lungs tomorrow...

Stuff On My Cat

Stuff On My Cat nuff said..

cats bloody cats

i cant sleep... there are bloody cats crying outside, two of them. they sound like babies.
i wonder what happened? did their owner die?

gaaaah!1

yeah and on an asian dint

of course im gonna give you the asian take, coz thats what i am,

on the asian dint there's this site ethnotechno that basically takes you through the last 10 years of what was "asian undergound' in the uk and ended up the 'asian massive' in the us...

god i miss the stuff that came out of Outcaste (UK) and Shakti (RIP). Today's label is six degrees. also, on the more mainstream tip, there's talvin singh and nitin sawhney, both mercury award winners.

links:
http://outcaste.com
http://tjrehmi.com
http://www.dholfoundation.com
http://www.sixdegreesrecords.com
http://www.ethnotechno.com
http://www.thieverycorporation.com

the slow but gradual increase in exposure in uk bhangra slowly killed off much of uk asian fusion (another name for it)... but it lives on. theivery corporation also have a lotta asian fusion elements in their music...

lastly this website purely for its funkyness - it's an oldish site now, but i loves it :)
http://www.sharaabmusic.com

edit - how do i make these links clickable? i tried <> but that made them goddamn invisible...

qualifying myself

i suppose i should qualify my existance by actually posting here occasionally. im sure drej will be pretty happy about this. or maybe not?? my own blog (bahahah) didn't do quite so well at apnablog.blogspot.com so I've decided to come here and ruin things. I guess more humans posting semifrequently make this a better and more huggy blog. bleh.

I decided to invest in flickr, coz I wasn't being allowed to put in more than 8 photos a month, and that's pretty stupid. There's a link up on the side to my pic page. Flickr is actually pretty cool, but i guess i caught the wave preeeety late.

Finished up at St Vincent's and off to Perth on friday for 6 months. Well, I like to think of it as '20 weeks'. Hmm. Well, at least the weather is nice, the air fresh and the commute a lot less.

I think this is enough for now.

On the subject of games.

Tim Schafer, who created Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango and some other classics has a relatively new game out called Psychonauts.
It's as good as anything else he's designed. Highly recommended!

Something for August

Here's a new post by request of Drej.

Work is fun.

Grumpy Gamer has a nice post about Game Violence and Real Violence

heh
O_o looks like ive gone bezerk updating this blog for the moment. call it attempts at circumventing work and a capped netspace adsl connection >_< !! as the great DOMO-KUN says RAAAAAAAAAAAR!
To me Day Of The Tentacle (DOTT) was the best game ever made. It represents the pinnacle of adventure gaming back in the genre's heyday. Chase it up, it is definetly a worthwile game and is something that i replay even now.

If you do own the game, try ScummVM. It allows you to play the lucasarts and other classics on todays machines. There are some nice graphics options that teaches an old game new tricks like looking a hellova lot better.

Have phun.

another day another MSN Messenger version...

well you probably be running the new MSN Messenger so here's a tasty treat:

The install is divided into 3 sections, which can be daunting at first. This is what I select;

Section 1 (General Options):

Section 2 (Main Window Options):
  • Boost Personal Messages to 500 Characters
  • Remove MSN Today Button
  • Remove MSN Search Bar
  • Remove Advertisement Banner
Section 3 (Conversation Window Options):
  • Remove Premium Services (What's Hot)
  • Remove Packs Button
  • Remove Search Button
  • Remove Botton Text Ad Banner

Last but not least you can remove the annoying tabs shown at the left side of your contact list. There is an option for that, but some people might not find it easy to locate:

  1. In MSN Messenger, select Options... from the Tools menu
  2. Select Security from the list on the left
  3. Check the box before This is a shared computer so don't display my tabs and press OK

things things and stuff

well yea, you got a point james, but you know, stuff.

buzybuzy with work lately which has killed my cravings to be on a pc. i think 15hrs is enuf in a day... but then again it hasnt completely stopped me.. you see a *magical* word called anime ;)

anime series that has kept me sane these past few weeks:
Elfen Lied
Genshiken
Great Teacher Onizuka
Paranoia Agent
Planetes
Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Tenjou Tenge
Trinity Blood

better than watching tv.. oh and i finally finished GTA:San Andreas. pretty good game, the only downfall i think was that they could of incorporated more of the sidequests into the main plot. and actually tested the game completely using the keyboard and mouse (driving school is impossible to complete -- 3 key lockout... and flying is a *ARRG* disable mouse flying)

a conundrum if you will (and a bit of a whine)

aah i have a great conundrum.. first let me begin.. from the beginning

many many moons ago.. say september 17 2004 i ordered many an anime box set from dvdsoon.com some arrived some did not.. and since then, i have been waiting.

today i waited no longer and cancelled the remaining orders as they updated the status for the dvds i wanted to out of stock. thanks. thanks a bunch.

so anyway. i now have a bit of cash i can use to buy something from their site (which ive normally had no problem with btw -- i was just after some rare items) and decided with the arrival of my broadband connection that i will get those movies using alternate means.

so. they sell consoles as well i see.. and like.. i want a new toy.. so like.. what yues reckon.. PSP or a DS? *which has better games?*

btw. whichever FUCKER stole my beloved digital camera ON MY FUCKING BIRTHDAY i will personally break your arms (or legs if you lack arms). and dude/chick u suck elephant cock for doing that. enjoy photos of my family and my birthday cake. i cant believe i was overseas for 2 months with my shit everywhere and NOTHING got stolen.. and first night i go out in melbs my camera gets nabbed. thanks guy/girl, thanks melbourne, thanks australia.

and in tech news..

"In response to Toshiba's 45 GB triple layer HD DVD, TDK has announced a quadruple layer BluRay disc, holding 100 GB."
from www.doom9.org

i think this is almost getting out of hand.. although none of these fools creating this tech i bet are paying any attention to access times and read write speeds

omg rofl japan has absolutely no accomodation!!

well talk bout learning things the hard way eh.. japan is like booked solid. youth hostels need to be booked 2 weeks in advance.. hotels need a minimum of 1 to 2 days.. obviously the cheaper ones need more eh..

first time i tried to change my flight back to melbs for an earlier one, went thru quantas, and they told me "screw you we dont care, go buy another ticket to aus if you wanna go home early".. so like.. after that was over it was too late to get a hotel *ANYWHERE* so i ended up sleeping at the airport.. which was interesting. airport closes at 11pm.. theres no trains, buses, taxis from there after that time either.. so it was lights out.. with security checking me and about 20 others passports 2 times (fair enuf its their job with all that gay terrorism shit anyway) so basically smoked ciggies all night and chatted to some jap guy that missed his last train. he was pretty cool, lives in NZ and was laid back compared to the rest of the ppl, so at least i ended up making a new freind eh.

well after 2 hours sleep that night and waiting to about 9am for breakfast etc i booked myself at a hotel nearby for a couple nights.. (which i just left on my way to visit anthea thanks to froggies help).. over there they had everything but i just slept almost solid for the 2 nights

weather isnt bad but aint great atm.. bout 25C every day but overcast.

ah went to like some center of tokyo.. talk about BUSY.. never seen so many ppl trying to cross the road in my life. took a movie of it.. bout 2-3000 ppl crossing the road every 1.5 minutes.. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall day.. i sat up in the starbucks (bleh) that overlooked this intersection to take the movie.. but man.. after watching it repeat about 4 or 5 times i started feeling sick (mebe the sheer amount of ppl) strangely enough there wasnt that much traffic hmm bizzaro.. but then again.. there wasnt any parking either heh..

anyway i am coming back early cos these accomodation shenanigans are causing me to stress more than enjoy myself.. be back in melbs on the 28th.. got a ton of pics and some great memories.

omg rofl im lost as in japan!!

well just arrived from japan from ljubljiana (thats in slovenia you idiots) and yeh hmmz.. 14 hr travel time total..

note to other fools going to japan on a whim, book hostels early if u want to stay there aight? cos the're fully booked.. oh.. and rail transport.. OMG SOOO EXPENSIVE! got a direct train leaving soon to tokyo from narita airport and itll cost me like almost 300$au

what else.. yeah hmm.. i miss you guys for some stupid reazon.. but i will get to see you all soon eh.

saying goodbye to my grandparents was hard... very.. my grandad is 84 this year and my grandma 80.. who knows if i will ever get the chance to see them again.. ah.. but thats the way it is i guess.. sigh.. living on the complete opposite side of the planet kinda makes it hard to meet your "old oldies" (as they say in slovenian) ill miss them, they're good kids.

anyway.. im off.. finally booked me a hotel etc at the airport wich was very helpfull. what else.. jap chicks are hot ;)

ciao for now!

what issit we ave ere then?

greetings from london humons

-- begin report --

day one:
what a strange place.. found this thingy on the ground and like now i put it in my eye. it is fun. i think it talks to me. beer makes the pain go away, like the locals, constantly hiding indoors even if there is suinshine outside in their public urban beer secreeters (p.u.b.s). i met with humon #3314, callsign kristy. had a laugh for a bit and parted. she kindly left me a blueprint diagram for the "underground", a archaic tunneled rail system. trains come every 5 mins to wherever you want.

day two:
after wasting the daytime. the time came to check progress on humon test subject #55223-1a, callsign owen. he is a faithful humon, and endlessly persues a daily ritual of ingesting large quantities of "beer". "fosters" does indeed taste different here, and many londonites actually like it. i think as owen put it best, its a hybrid between a crown larger and a vb. interesting. owen remains slightly insane, which is a good sign as i was hoping. we proceeded to drink with 2 of his humon collegues, which may warrant becoming test subjects themselves. the thingy i have placed in my eye refferes to itself as "itch". this disturbes me. i medicate myself and those humons around me with beer to try and disinfect the area.

day three:
hangover. the cure is apparently a bland greasy breakfast that has no flavour and tastes nothing like the ingredients they claim are contained within the fat wobbling on my plate. it is palletable with a lot of salt. time moves a little slower today. itch thinks it is wise to do stuff, i think otherwise. humon "kristy" invites me over for some dinner. her cooking abilities are adequate. drank wine beverages and met a "house mate", itch and i find the thought of mating with a dwelling quite strange.

day four:
today.. had a slightly greasier breakfast for no reason as for some reason itch felt like it. i think itch wants to shop, i cannot find a good reason against that suggestion. meeting up with humon #8826, callsign hong today. must wait untill the humon competes it's daily work cycle.

Kudos to Onelink?

A couple weeks ago, my monthly ticket was overwritten by a bloody stupid ticket machine... Two weeks gone! Just like that. The bus driver told me to ring Metlink. Metlink told me to ring Onelink. Onelink gave me their website address.

I downloaded a refund form, filled it out and sent it off with my defective ticket. Then today, in the mail, I got a letter from Onelink - a cover letter apologising for the inconvenience and two bonus weekly zone 1+2 tickets. I could've done with refund money but I'm not complaining.

So... kudos to Onelink. One week turnaround time. Not too shabby...

i like cars, cars like me, and then they explode

indeed. cars eh. funny things with four wheels that suck most of your moneys away and some people become addicted to changing bits here and there on them.

well u never know when itll break down right?
yea well u can get it serviced regularly (~800+$AU a year) doesnt make them cheap, but maintenance definetly keeps them going better. Also making sure u have rego and mandatory 3rd party insurance (another ~800+$AU a year) isnt much fun either.

well yesterday my car decides it wants to screw up a head or gasket on one of the cylinders (its sucking in water with the feul) for no apparent reason. fun.. i am car-less and i detest public transport.

im a little more than annoyed since i just had its 100,000km service about 4000kms ago and there was apparently nothing wrong with it.. makes you think.. well at least makes me think of killing my mechanic.. but then again.. its hard to find one you trust (not to mention get rid of a dead body).
